St Casmirs closes 5/3/09

St Casmirs on the East End > Founded in the early 1900 by Lituanian Immigrants > The Catholic Diocese of Albany was directed to close and consolidate 20% of the churches in The BE Church program..The statuary ,windows and frescoes are amazing as you can see ,but I missed an opportunity by not including a wide shot

Nice shots, Phil. It's a shame about the church closing, wonder what they'll do with the building?

Building is nice but the artwork is going to be lost ..It is supposed to be offered to the church of next designation (St Stans). What ever is left is to be warehoused Other churches in the Diocese can now chose objects, but most likely other churches will decline ; they already have their own works

I agree that it is a sad event. These churches are so beautiful that are being closed around the country. Also, it shows the wealth and splendor of a world-wide institution.
