I think that it is possible to get camera shy person to pose if you give them something to hold that they can feel diverts the center of attention away from themselves..
The second picture is in afternoon light again in a mirror. Mary seemed to be pleased with the image

I agree with Trish, it is a good tip that I hope to remember as there are many camera shy people. The portrait of Mary is lovely. I can see why she would be pleased.
